Agriculture

The total area of agricultural land in Republika Srpska is 1,299,000 ha (51.4% stake in Bosnia and Herzegovina), as compared to the number of inhabitants makes approximately 1 ha per capita, which is above the world average (0.24 ha per capita) and the European average (0.40 ha per capita).

Agricultural complex represents about 50% of the total area, and they are mostly consisted of flatland, mountain terrains, highlands and mountain.

The structure of the surface can be represented as follows:

  • arable land and gardens 50,7%;
  • meadows and pastures 45,5%;
  • other 3,8%.

Forests

According to absolute forest cover (40%) and the total inventory at net grow on wood mass, Republic of Srpska holds an important place in Europe. Also, relative rich forest cover is, in comparison with the environment, very high 0.67 ha per capita. In the region of Banja Luka forests (conifers, hardwood) covering an area of approx. 300,000 ha.)

Mineral treasure and hydro resources:

  • iron ore – Ljubija, Omarska;
  • bauxite- Mrkonjić Grad;
  • gypsum- Novi Grad, Šipovo;
  • cement lapor – Novi Grad, Ramići;
  • lime stone, Fabric of lime – Ukrina;
  • gravel and sand – Gradiška, Srbac;
  • hydro potentials of river Vrbas and other rivers in region

 

The current utilization of the total potential for generating electricity in Republic of Srpska is about 30%, what tells about possibilities for investment and development of this sector. Installed power of currently available electro-energy capacity in Republika Srpska is around 1300 MW/h, which should triple after the realization of several capital projects  (thermo-power plant Stanari, Gacko and Ugljevik; hydro-power plant Buk Bijela on River Drina; hydro-power plant on River Trebisnjica, etc)

Water

Rivers that flow through the region: Vrbas, Sana, Una, Sava, Ukrina, Ugar etc.
Mineral water – Laktaši, Slatina, Banja Luka, Kulaši, Mlječanica etc.
